A Thousand Splendid Suns (2nd to 18th May)
Birmingham Rep, Broad Street, Birmingham B1 2EP
The “spiritual sequel” to The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns brings Khaled Hosseini world to the stage in a story adapted by Ursula Rani Sarma. There are special preview performances from 2nd to 7th May.

B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival (3rd to 12th May)
Southside, Central Birmingham
Break Mission, High Vis, Juice Aleem, Afroflux and Birmingham Hippodrome bring the vibes of, street art, dance, beats, freerunning and even BMX Bikes to Birmingham’s Southside, and Bullring for another year.

This is a FREE Event but does include some chargeable workshops and events.

Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra (8th May)
The Jam House, 3-5 St Pauls Square, Birmingham B3 1QU
Marking 20 years of The Jam House in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter, Jools Holland returns with His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra for a huge night which has sold out of regular tickets already. (But you can still make an evening with dinner and the gig!)

“You know we belong together, where neighbours become good friends” Before Aussie soaps lived on Channel 5, before you realised Shortland Street wasn’t even Aussie, and when you thought every soap star was a secret pop star. I mean a lot of them were! Fall back into the 80s with this musical by Andrew Norris.

The Rocky Horror Show (13th to 25th May)

A Midsummer Night’s Dream (15th to 18th May)

National Production Company return to Birmingham’s iconic Old Rep with their twist on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Old Rep says:
Set against a medieval backdrop immerse yourself in a fantasy world on a Midsummer’s night where four lovers and a bumbling group of amateur actors descend into an enchanted forest where sprites lurk and fairies rule.

Independent Birmingham Festival at The Bond (18th and 19th May)

Rosie Kay – 10 Soldiers (21st May)

Rosie Kay’s Five Soldiers is given the big stage to perform and to bring up the scale on the biggest theatre stage outside of London, this performance will have double the soldiers.

Birmingham Pride (25th and 26th May)

Birmingham Pride is about accepting that people are different and in a huge city like Birmingham where everyone is different to each other sometimes we still need that reminder. Love, pride, supporting others and being visible are all the hallmarks of what makes Birmingham Pride special. From the massive Saturday Pride Parade to Drag Queens, a huge main stage, to community stalls and even The Human League!

Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K (26th May)

With just four weeks to go, unless you are already “fit” or at least doing some regular street running you won’t be ready for the Great Birmingham 10K but you can go along and support the runners and even donate! Then maybe think about getting some new running shoes..
