Seven Things to do in Birmingham: August Bank Holiday 2022

Brace yourselves this series IS coming back! Starting with a Mini Edition of BrumHour’s Things to do in Birmingham. As ever there’s a mixture of FREE and paid ticketed events. And they are all from venues or spaces personally experienced by myself (Dave Massey) or with businesses and teams BrumHour previously worked with.
Out of Frame (Until 29th August)
Ikon Gallery, 1 Oozells Square, Birmingham B1 2HS
Abdulrazaq Awofeso’s Out of Frame is up on the second floor of Ikon with all new work commissioned by Ikon themselves and features objects made from discarded wooden pallets. Over in the tower room is Haffendi Anuar’s Rumah Berkaki (Legged House) which consists of paintings and fabric.
On the first floor is The Near Breeder, a hanging glass structure by Yhonnie Scarce, with Salote Tawale’s YOU, ME, ME, YOU video installation at the entrance to the first floor, with Osman Yousefzada’s Spaces of Transcendence providing the final video installation on this floor.

Ocean Colour Scene (26th August)
The New Irish Centre Birmingham, 205 Wheelers Lane, Birmingham B13 0ST
OCS play their only Birmingham date of 2022 outdoors at The New Irish Centre, with support from local artists. With four top ten albums, and six top ten singles including The Riverboat Song and The Day We Caught the Train, this local talent heads over to Kings Heath!

Birmingham Weekender (27th and 28th August)
Bullring and Grand Central, Birmingham B5 4BU
A staple in the Birmingham festivals calendar, Birmingham Weekender is presented this year as part of Birmingham 2022 Festival with Birmingham Hippodrome and Bullring and Grand Central. The 2022 edition includes a HUGE slip and slide down Central Street (Previously St Martin’s Walk) just one of over 100 FREE events around Bullring and Grand Central over the weekend.

Pairc Festival (27th and 28th August)
The New Irish Centre Birmingham, 205 Wheelers Lane, Birmingham B13 0ST
Imelda May and Hothouse Flowers (27th August), Finbar Furey and Nathan Carter (28th August) with a full line up of artists each day with music from Noon to 10.30pm both days.

Owlstock (28th August)

The Night Owl says:
Owlstock, Birmingham’s beloved Woodstock-inspired festival, returns to The Night Owl on Sunday 28th August. With live performances from tribute acts and local artists, DJs spinning the best Woodstock sounds, street food and more it’s set to be a fantastic festival.
The line up includes Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix tribute), The Daybreakers, Liamosino, Acoustic Who and The Preach. Plus there are DJs including Alexandra Rose, Richard Bamber and more.
