Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is calling on generous cyclists to get pedalling for Ride the Reservoir, a cycling challenge which takes riders through the West Midlands’ most scenic countryside.

Taking place on Sunday 7th April, Ride the Reservoir is a charity sportive which starts at Bartley Green, before heading into the quaint villages of Romsley, Belbroughton, Chaddesley Corbett, Dodford, Barnt Green and then back to the reservoir.

Whilst the route showcases some of the West Midlands’ most picturesque landscapes, biking enthusiasts will have to take on challenging ascents, including a tough hill climb at Romsley Hill.

A popular sportive, last year’s Ride the Reservoir saw more than 400 riders raise over £23,000 for the Hospice, making it a sell-out event. All sponsorship money raised helps provide vital care to local people and their loved ones who are living with life-limiting illness.

Laura Nash, events manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said:

We’re on the hunt for big-hearted cyclists to take on this year’s Ride the Reservoir, helping to raise crucial funds for hospice care. Whether you’re a keen rider or have only been cycling for a little while, this event is a fantastic way to kick start the cycling season.

It will cost £8 million this year to run our vital services, over 60 per cent of which must come from voluntary donations. That’s why sponsorship money from events like Ride the Reservoir is so vital – it helps make sure that we can continue to care for people, wherever and whenever they need it most.

Every day, Birmingham St Mary’s cares for 400 people who are living across Birmingham and Sandwell. Its expert team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and more help people to live well with life-limiting illness, providing support in people’s homes, in the community and at the Hospice itself.

This year, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. The Hospice cared for its first patient on 5tht March 1979 and four decades later, it is supporting more people than ever before.
