A Royal Cheer at Black Country Living Museum

Visit Black Country Living Museum this bank holiday weekend (6th to 8th May 2023) for a royal cheer to past monarchs as the Museum looks back at royal celebrations, from Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee all the way to the present day, and the coronation of King Charles III.

Discover how Black Country folk celebrated the United Kingdom’s kings and queens through the years: the royal souvenirs that were made here in the Black Country and discover the truth about King Edward VIII – the king who never had a coronation.

Street games on the cobbled street

Head into the canalside village to explore period houses and shops. Meet historic characters, including Mr Singh, the pub landlady and the bossy street party organiser, who need helps setting up for the celebrations. There’s a street party to prepare for and you don’t want to miss it!

Make sure to come dressed for the occasion. Why don’t you dig out your fancy dress costume, wear red, white and blue, or even dress in your finest for a royal bash? Grab a bag of the Museum’s famously bostin’ fish & chips and sit down to enjoy the jubilant atmosphere with a good old-fashioned sing-along at the Museum’s village street party.

Test your skills with the Games Master by taking part in traditional street games and races, join in with paper souvenir crafts and help the village baker to make a crown bread loaf fit for a king!

Not forgetting… all your usual favourite things that make up a fantastic day out at the Museum:

  • Pop into the sweet shop for your favourite traditional sweets.
  • Take a trip down ‘into the thick’ with the Museum’s famous coal mine experience.
  • Ride on a vintage bus.
  • Catch a short film in the Lime Light Cinema.
  • Test your times tables in the Victorian School.
  • and even make a toast to the royal family with a Babycham in the 1950s pub.

Additional to Saturday only (although this event is for those who wish to celebrate and participate in the main village event and activities), there will also be a screening of the coronation service for those who would like to sit and relax in the park (limited seating available).
