Birmingham GPs Brave Wild Winter Weather for Covid-19 jabs
West Heath Surgery and their patients braved the snow and black ice this weekend as they helped Birmingham lead the fight against Covid-19. Despite freezing temperatures the surgery managed to vaccinate over 1,000 patients over Saturday and Sunday.
However, it wasn’t only West Heath Surgery’s patients who benefited from being vaccinated. The surgery team worked in partnership with Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust to also vaccinate key NHS frontline staff. They included District Nurses, Health Visitors, and staff at the West Heath Community Hospital working on both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 wards.
Nirmal Vora, Managing Partner at West Heath Surgery and CEO of SDSmyhealthcare GP Federation, said:
I’d like to thank both staff for and patients for negotiating the snow and ice this weekend to help tackle COVID-19 in Birmingham. It’s testament to the hard work and community spirit here in West Heath that we managed to get such an impressively high number of patients vaccinated. It’s obvious that our patients are keen to get the vaccination as soon as possible and will brave such bad conditions. Well done to all involved.”
The surgery carries out vaccinations on behalf of eleven GP practices as part of the South Birmingham Alliance PCN. West Heath Surgery has been administering both the Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccines.
