A new series of free creative sessions created by and for young people will launch at Birmingham Hippodrome this month, with the first sessions taking place on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th February.

The Young Community Drop-In Sessions have been developed by Birmingham Hippodrome’s Young Advocates. The Young Advocates programme launched in January 2021 with a group of young people aged 14-22 who are working with the Hippodrome to shape the future of the venue’s participation work for young people.

The sessions will include a range of creative drop-in workshops including:

  • Writing, Spoken Word and Performance with Amerah Saleh
  • Zine-making Workshop with Louisa Robbin, Acting and Improvising with Corey Weekes
  • Street and Hip-Hop Dance with Steady from Flawless
  • Gaming for Wellbeing with Mikayla Sinead
  • Open Mic sessions.

Sophia Griffin, Head of Community and Talent Development at Birmingham Hippodrome said:

Our Young Advocates have worked hard to develop thoughtful sessions that offer a great range of creative outlets for young people, alongside spaces to relax and feel safe.

The Young Community Drop-In Sessions will give young people the opportunity to try something new, or join something they already love with new people.

The sessions are open to people of all levels and abilities and our Young Advocates are available to support anyone who would like a buddy on the day, or a chat in advance to find out more about the sessions.”

The first Young Community Drop-In Sessions take place at Birmingham Hippodrome on Wednesday 23rd February Noon to 6pm and Thursday 24th February Noon to 5pm. Further sessions will then run every last Wednesday of the month from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, starting from Wednesday 30th March.

All sessions are free and suitable for ages 14 plus, with no need to pre-book, simply turn up on the day. You can find out more at birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/young-community-drop-in-sessions.
