Birmingham Royal Ballet 2025/26: Season Preview

Last night, Birmingham Royal Ballet treated an audience to a celebration of Frederick Ashton Classics ahead of its run of Cinderella at Birmingham Hippodrome. The evening featured stunning moments from La fille mal gardée, Interlinked and two moments from Cinderella. The event was hosted by the lovely Kate Williams who amusingly discovered that asking Birmingham audiences questions doesn’t always get the reaction someone might want. (“Am I a Brummie or not?” Nooo said Birmingham. An adopted Brummie maybe?)

As always the performers were excellent and the music by Royal Ballet Sinfonia was rich and broad as it filled the space of Symphony Hall.

The night also featured Carlos Acosta’s announcement that he will be extending his time with Birmingham Royal Ballet. He has plenty of fans in Birmingham who will be thrilled by this announcement. Here’s more about the recent new season announcement:

Black Sabbath – The Ballet (18th to 27th September 2025 at Birmingham Hippodrome)

As well as visiting The Lowry in Salford, Greater Manchester, Theatre Royal in Plymouth, Sadler’s Wells in London and Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, the production with its huge Birmingham roots will visit the USA’s Kennedy Centre Opera House in Washington DC and Chrysler Hall, Norfolk, Virginia.

This is a stunning production to see and split into three distinct sections: Heavy Metal Ballet, The Band and Everybody is a Fan, each telling their own story via their own choreographers..

The Nutcracker 2025 (21st November to 13th December 2025 at Birmingham Hippodrome)

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s own description says:

At the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve, Clara tiptoes downstairs and is swept away on an unforgettable magical journey…

This refurbished panto contains some updated staging and new refreshed moments in the production which debuted in 2022. The production itself has been lining the Birmingham Hippodrome calendar almost annually since 1990.
