Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Cinderella at Birmingham Hippodrome: Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”A stunning ballet”
Choreography David Bintley Music Sergei Prokofiev
After her mother dies, Cinderella finds herself with a stepmother and stepsisters who do not like her. A local Prince hosts a ball, and with help from The Fairy Godmother, Cinderella arrives to enchant the Prince at the ball.
This is a classic folk tale that is often performed as pantomime or in Disney style, so having the chance to see this classical ballet version is a real privilege and there are some very elegant set pieces to look out for.

It’s been four years since I’ve seen this production at Birmingham Hippodrome, certain moments were very fresh in my memory, but others less so, making it delightful to rediscover. The pumpkin coach, the clock and the full set itself remain stunning, as are the costumes, wigs and beautiful look of the production.
The dancers are excellent Yu Kurihara as Cinderella, transforms from downtrodden servant to stunning leading lady, with Lachlan Monaghan, a charming Prince, Daria Stanciulescu is elegant and mean as the stepmother whilst Eilis Small and Olivia Chang Clarke are total scene stealers as the step-sisters with their clumsy clothing and suitably over the top performances.

I can’t throw enough praise for how delightful this production is, from its opening moments until curtain down, it shows just how strong Birmingham Royal Ballet is on a global stage, It wouldn’t look out of place on Broadway, The West End or on a classical European stage.
A stunning ballet, Cinderella is at Birmingham Hippodrome with Birmingham Royal Ballet until 1st March 2025. Book tickets and find out more about the work of Birmingham Royal Ballet here: brb.org.uk
