Call for Artists to Help Mark Platinum Jubilee – West Midlands Lord Lieutenant
Via Jordan for West Midlands Lieutenancy
April 2022: The West Midlands Lord-Lieutenant has called for artists across the region to submit a Royal portrait ahead of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – with the best set to be shared with the Palace.
The West Midlands Lieutenancy is the second-largest lieutenancy in England and Wales and the post is currently held by John Crabtree OBE, Her Majesty’s personal representative for the region.
As celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee approach, the WM Lieutenancy has launched its #PlatinumPortraits22 campaign – which encourages artists to share their own unique portrait of Her Majesty The Queen.
Participants are encouraged to use any medium of their choosing – painting, sketching, sculpting, digital art or even food art – in order to make the collection as diverse as possible.
The campaign closes on 25th and the best portraits as selected by the WM Lieutenancy team will form part of a West Midlands celebration pack to be shared with The Queen.
The WM Lieutenancy is also supporting communities and local authorities to enhance their Big Jubilee Lunch celebrations, offering playlist suggestions, sustainable street party advice and special Jubilee recipes through its social media channels.
The Lord-Lieutenant said:
The Platinum Jubilee is a once in a millennium celebration and a moment to be remembered.
We are already seeing communities come together to prepare their celebrations for the Big Jubilee Lunch, which is wonderful to see.
On top of that, we want our artistic community across the region to come forward with their portraits of Her Majesty The Queen as part of the #PlatinumPortraits22 campaign. We know that there are so many unique artists across the West Midlands with their own style and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.
We will be creating a memory pack of celebrations around the Platinum Jubilee and these portraits will play a key part of this.”
To submit a portrait to the #PlatinumPortraits22 campaign, simply share your artwork using the appropriate hashtag on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
