Slim Chickens UK at
Bullring and Grand Central
Ed’s Diner at Bullring and Grand Central above Birmingham New Street Station has gone! And in its place is another red and white coloured eating establishment, Slim Chickens. The menu is filled with chicken; Chicken Wings, Chicken Sandwiches (burgers), Chicken Tenders (chicken strips), Salad and Wraps (A salad and two wraps).
Thursday 5.15pm
Slim Chickens is pretty busy for a brand new venue, it only opened in late June. The call of chicken, in all its forms, is loud for the chicken hungry city of Birmingham. Ten people are standing considering the menu. A couple of people are brave enough to navigate the touch screen by themselves.
Having seen the staff singing and rapping on Instagram, it comes as no shock that they are hardworking and really friendly. In central Birmingham where there are 25 people willing to take your retail or restaurant job tomorrow, delivering great customer service is paramount.
After seeing Slim Chickens was coming to Birmingham, I downloaded the app which told me I had three chicken tenders waiting (on the house as part of their opening offer- worth £3.95). I followed them on Twitter via BrumHour and they followed me back almost immediately. (Result!) As a networking account it is important that businesses are following BrumHour to justify content via the website here.
I order a Slim’s Wrap (£4.95) which contains chicken tenders, lettuce, tomato and a ranch sauce. It comes with skin on fries and a bottomless soft drink (£8.45) as a meal. (It came up as Giraffe on my receipt owned by the parent company who used to manage the Ed’s Diner here.)
I’m given a number and directed to pour my own drink at the dispenser. I chose Lipton Peach Ice Tea. My food arrives quickly considering it is quite busy. The tenders were chunky and satisfying especially with the spicy BBQ sauce (There are THIRTEEN sauces to choose from*). The wrap itself was a little messy; I couldn’t see any forks or anything to use. But it tasted great and looked very handmade.
Somewhere to add to the list, its a pound or two more than I’d normally pay for this type of meal, but will be nice every so often.
Would I go back? In a heartbeat. Who is paying? Depends what is happening!

As mentioned above, this isn’t a sponsored post and I paid in full.
*A previous version of this experience stated there were only seven sauces to pick from but I was actually looking at the house wings sauces on the menu.
