October 2021: Torchlit ghost tours, a spooky science night and pumpkin flotilla are just a few of the treats on offer at Birmingham Museums this October half-term holiday.

There are activities at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, as well as at the city’s historic properties, Aston Hall, Blakesley Hall, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter and Sarehole Mill. There’s something for visitors of all ages to experience throughout the October half-term.

Aston Hall (22nd to 24th and 28th to 29th October)

From 22nd to 24th October visitors can join a Torchlit Ghost Tour at Aston Hall – one of Britain’s most haunted buildings – to hear about the Hall’s intriguing past.

Friendly Ghost Tours on 28th and 29th October will offer frightfully good fun for younger children and the Aston Hall’oween on 30th October will see the Hall transformed into a haunted mansion complete with a witch hunter, wise woman and an executioner!

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter (27th and 28th October)

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is the perfect place to unleash children’s creativity over half-term with a Kids’ Jewellery Workshop 27th October using real jewellers’ techniques to make their own bracelet or pendant to take home. And on 28 October history, folklore and ghosts collide on a Jewellery Quarter Ghost Tour.

Sarehole Mill (29th to 31st October)

Sarehole Mill’s popular Pumpkin Flotilla returns from 29th to 31st October. Take along your own decorated pumpkin to the mill and watch as the ghostly ferryman glides it across the mill pond. Enjoy delicious hot chocolate, spooky stories and make a lantern to guide you round the mill pond.

Family Spooky Mill Tours are also on offer at Sarehole Mill from 29th to 31st October featuring lantern making and a guided tour with ghost stories.

Blakesley Hall (29th October)

Meanwhile over at Blakesley Hall visitors can join a storyteller for the Halloween Family Tour and learn about Halloween traditions on 29th October.

Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum (30th October and across half term week)

At Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, there’ll be fun for spooky scientists, witches and wizards at the Spooky Science Night on 30th October. Families can take part in a Zombie operation board game, dance the night away at the Silent Zombie Disco and enjoy the spectacular Trick or Treat science show, where every choice leads to a delightful or disgusting experiment!

Visitors are encouraged to dress up to be entered into a fantastic prize draw too. Halloween themed drop-in activities are also on offer at Thinktank throughout the half-term week when the museum will be open seven days from 10am – 5pm.
