No Such Thing As Wolves at Birmingham Hippodrome: Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐A fun, wholesome musical
Directed by Emily Ling Williams , book and lyrics by Gerard Foster, with music and lyrics by Richard Webb
Hettie needs to hibernate for the winter, but life is too exciting, and her dad is trying to remain calm. A new neighbour appears and poses as “Sydney Squirrel” – a superhero. But there are wolves around, and Hettie has been told by her dad that they don’t exist!

This is a wonderful, friendly production with lots of fun songs, charming performances and a fun big set featuring a huge tree! The Patrick Studio at Birmingham Hippodrome is a great, flexible space, and the production makes the most of this.
Faye Campbell is excellent as Hettie, full of youthful wonder and innocence, Matthew Rutherford is fun and charming as Dad, Harry. Beth Gourlay as Sydney is very charming, and her voice blends so well with Faye Campbell. The villains are Oliver Sidney, who plays Wiffy, throwing the ballet moves around with a crazy voice, and Elinor Peregrin, who is daft and endearing as Woofy.
I really enjoyed seeing this production come to life, and the sixty minutes of this show (with no interval) went by in a flash! It’s mainly for younger families, but adults will enjoy the humour as much as the music. I know I did.

It is great to see the fruits of Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre Department again with this production, which is sure to entertain young people for years to come.
A fun, wholesome musical, No Such Thing As Wolves, is at Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Studio until 4th January. Book tickets here: birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/no-such-thing-as-wolves.
