Please Do Not Touch at Birmingham Hippodrome Patrick Studio: Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐”A bold, one-man play”
Directed by Gail Babb and Written by Casey Bailey
Mason has seemingly created a social media video in a historic home and tried to remove one of the acquired objects (A Somali Afro comb). Now, he is in a young offender’s building and discovering the value of reading, spoken word and poetry. Just as long as he can keep his nose clean…

This is a one-man play featuring a great performance by Selorm Adonu performing all the roles as well as the main character, Mason. His voice switches tone with ease, and his posture totally changes, even in the same clothes, to become the other characters.
Throughout the seventy-five minutes of this production, we learn about his family, his cell-mate and his relationships with the prison management.
The set is a static base with tube lighting and a single wall which rotates to reveal his cell, a chair and a desk. There’s an enclosed bookcase to one side. The lighting is excellent and really shows the passage of time along with the vibrant sounscape.

Seeing just one person on the stage might be quite intense for some people, but this was a great play with lots of lyrical writing to enjoy.
A bold, one-man play, Please Do Not Touch, is at Birmingham Hippodrome until 31st January 2026 before touring until 13th March 2026.
