Review: Bullring Makeout Techno Jamz at Birmingham Hippodrome
⭐⭐⭐⭐A fun personal production.
Written and performed by Nathan Queeley-Dennis
Nathan Queeley-Dennis plays Nathan in this one person monologue play set in Birmingham.
The production features music a soundscape and lighting to match the series of stories that Nathan tells in his charmingly lyrical humour filled style. Being a Brummie, there is a plenty of downplayed humour and light humour to be found in the awkwardness of his situations.

I found this production zipped on by really swiftly through its one-hour running time, which only has one moment of audience participation even though the structure is addressed to the audience through his character and impressions of those around him.
The set is a simple curtain hanging from the rafters and across part of the floor, with shirts placed around the performance area, each shirt acts as a chapter in the next part of the story.
Having seen Nathan Queeley-Dennis in Rebel Music at Birmingham Rep a few years ago I knew he was a warm and likeable performer and I’d like to see more of his writing performed.
A fun personal production, Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz is at Birmingham Hippodrome until Saturday 5th October 2024. Book tickets here: https://www.birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/bullring-techno-makeout-jamz.
