Review: Gwyneth Goes Skiing at Birmingham Hippodrome
⭐⭐⭐⭐Totally Chaotic Fun!
Written and performed by Linus Karp and Joseph Martin
This darkly comedic production explores the time in 2016 leading up to Gwyneth Paltrow and Terry Sanderson’s court case and then the second half covers the 2023 court case itself. With a Puppet!!

Linus Karp is excellent as Gwyneth getting her poses, hair and walk all perfected whilst utilising the voice of Catherine Cohen as Gwyneth’s singing voice. Joseph Martin gets more of a chance to play Terry Sanderson with freedom since the audience will probably accept him doing anything for this character we know quite little about. He does this by putting on a comic character style voice and big hair throughout.
The other characters are played by either; props, an actual puppet and erm the audience. Which is my worst theatre nightmare come to life. The puppet as Sanderson’s legal representation is inspired and I’d have preferred some of this in the first half.
The set is simple, using clothes rails for set design and a few tables, there’s a wind machine and some snow, plus monitors for the audience to say lines at certain moments.

The production company for this is called Awkward Productions and this certainly is! It’s fun, silly and shows how the real life events were just as chaotic.
Can’t wait to see more from this production company. Totally chaotic fun, Gwyneth Goes Skiing is at Birmingham Hippodrome until 31st October 2024 before resuming its UK Tour. Book tickets here: birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/gwyneth-goes-skiing.
