Review: Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle at The Alexandra
⭐⭐⭐⭐”Endlessly fun and silly”
Directed by Hannah Sharkey, written by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, and Jonathan Sayer
The Mind Mangler, played by Henry Lewis, from Magic Goes Wrong, is back in his very own magic/mystery show with Jonathan Sayer as his stooge.
Whilst this comes from the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong, it is unconnected to that world and really there’s no need to know anything about Mischief Theatre and their previous productions to enjoy the daftness that runs throughout.

There are several genuine tricks to ponder but on the whole, it is comedy and audience involvement that fills the stage. There’s even time for an amusing subplot featuring the two main actors on stage.
The set is a simple range of lights and props with a huge screen to point at unsuspecting audience members.
I really enjoyed the daftness and jokes of this two (and a bit) hour show (Including interval), Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer prove their comfort in adlibbing on stage throughout whilst allowing the audience in on the action. Their performances are warm and endlessly fun and silly.

There were quite a few young people at this performance last night considering the amount of f-bombs and warnings that say 10+ so don’t be surprised if your child comes back with a new set of swears.
An entertaining Derren Brown parody Mind Mangler is at The Alexandra until 29th May 2024. Discover what is coming up at The Alexandra here: atgtickets.com/venues/alexandra-theatre-birmingham. Find out more about Mischief here: mischiefcomedy.com.
