Review: The Rocky Horror Show at The Alexandra

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐A very cheeky night out!

Written by Richard O’Brien and directed by Christopher Luscombe

Brad (Richard Meek) and Janet (Haley Flaherty) find their car has broken down after attending a wedding, and they arrive at a scary-looking house with a conspicuous butler Riff Raff (Kristian Lavercombe), an even more conspicuous housemaid Magenta (Suzie McAdam) Brad and Janet seek to telephone a garage to come and fix the car. Despite feeling uncomfortable on arrival they forget to actually leave! Contained within the house are Eddie (Joe Allen), Columbia (Darcy Finded) and of course Frank (Stephen Webb) with his new friend Rocky (Ben Westhead).

Rocky Horror is a legend in its own lifetime. Unique, interactive and full of fun. You are invited to dress up and learn the lines of the audience! Yes, you have lines too. It isn’t for everyone but.. it is a cult and a cult hit!

This is a sci-fi-horror-comedy-musical with lots of catchy numbers and glitter thrown about. Stephen Webb delivers great vocals and lots of leg as Frank-N-Furter and Kristian Lavercombe never fails to entertain as Riff Raff. As for our narrator, Philip Franks has been narrating this show on and off for many years and he’s excellent as ever. Especially with his fourth wall breaking to the audience. The band is great here too, with a bold style echoing back to the glam of the 70s and the rock of the 80s.

Every time I see it I want to come back and see it again almost immediately, Is it my favourite show? That’s Les Misérables, but it certainly is a lot of fun and it is up there in my top ten; since you didn’t ask.

Dressing up is half the fun, so get your heels on, top hat and tails or fishnets get ready for two hours of mayhem.

A cheeky night out! The Rocky Horror Show is at The Alexandra until 1st April 2023. Book tickets using BrumHour’s affiliate link >> HERE <<.
