Review: The Snowflake at Birmingam Rep
⭐⭐⭐⭐A lovely seasonal production.
Directed and adapted by Matt Aston, written by Benji Davies
Based on the book by Benji Davies, The Snowflake is the story of Noelle played by Layla Mehay-Bennett with Heidi Goldsmith playing Mum and Pappie. After a family bereavement, life has changed for Noelle, Pappie and Mum but Noelle has something else on her mind; writing a school project. What will inspire her?

Most of the kids who saw this probably didn’t bother with the story though, it was filled with magical moments and stunning lighting, the characters were fun and easy to relate to.
The script was filled with plenty repetition which probably beats attached to the language but I was just hearing it. I enjoyed both of the actor’s performances a lot and Noelle is an adorable character to see play out.
It is odd being a theatre of 50 kids and their parents, I’m sat there on my own but this is where reviews come from. There are even sensory experiences in the corridor leading to the theatre for children and big kids to enjoy. The music from the production must have played out before it started as I knew the tune suddenly.

This is a fun experience though very big kids with their grandkids might find it too easy to close their eyes for a moment or five.
A lovely seasonal production, The Snowflake is at Birmingham Rep until 12th January 2025. Book tickets here: https://www.birmingham-rep.co.uk/whats-on/the-snowflake/
