April 2022: The 2022 Betfred British Masters has announced an exciting new partnership with three of the most enthusiastic football fans in the West Midlands, which will see them swap their footballs for golf balls in celebration of the upcoming tournament.
Birmingham City fan Brummie Joe, Wolverhampton Wanderers fan Dazzling Dave, and Aston Villa fan Dan Bardell, all of whom have hugely successful YouTube channels dedicated to their respective clubs, will tee off during a special event at The Belfry Hotel and Resort on 19th April 2022 designed to give them a taste of the British Masters.
Documenting their day at The Belfry, followers will be able to see how the YouTubers faired when their content airs on Monday 25th April.
Kit Gartrell, Championship Director at PGA European Tour, said:
The Betfred British Masters is one of the most highly anticipated events in the British golfing calendar, and we’re delighted to return to the iconic Brabazon Course at The Belfry Hotel & Resort for a second consecutive year.
With golf clubs one of the first venues to reopen post-lockdown, interest in golf equipment soared by 288% in 2021, creating a new golfing fanbase for us to engage. In the run-up to this year’s tournament, we discovered football fans often also have a keen interest in golf but rarely consider attending live golfing events – or live sporting events in general.
We invited three of the most enthusiastic football fans in the Midlands to show just how exciting a day at The 2022 Betfred British Masters can be while showcasing the event as a safe, social sporting moment for West Midlands-based football fans to enjoy on their own turf.”
Football presenter and fan Dan Bardell from The Villa View, said:
I’m delighted to be swapping football chants for a day of golf ahead of the 2022 Betfred British Masters. There are a few stereotypes surrounding golf, but it is a sport I’m really keen to get involved in and it’s a great day out whether you’re playing or watching. This partnership with the 2022 Betfred British Masters is a great opportunity to show football fans just how fun golf can be.”
The 2022 Betfred British Masters will be hosted by former Masters champion, Danny Willett, and will take place on The Belfry’s award-winning world-class Brabazon course. The course has a rich golfing history, having previously hosted many significant golf events, including the Ryder Cup and the Betfred British Masters in 2021.
