Season Preview: Belgrade Theatre Autumn/Winter 2019/20
Before their 2018/19 season wraps up with Oddsocks’ A Midsummer Night’s Dream 18th to 20th June (Book here: belgrade.co.uk/event/a-midsummer-nights-dream-2019). Here’s a look at theatre coming to Belgrade Theatre in Coventry later in 2019 and into 2020!
Stardust (14th to 21st September)

“Featuring pulsating dance numbers and moving melodious ballads, Stardust is a romantic pop, R&B and Bollywood musical thriller from the makers of Bring on the Bollywood.”

Saturday Night Fever (17th to 21st September)
The 2019 tour of this adaptation arrives in Coventry, with a full 70’s soundtrack, telling the story of Tony Manero, a working class dancer in Brooklyn, New York.

The Lady Vanishes (24th to 28th September)
Gwen Taylor, Andrew Lancel, Denis Lill, Scarlett Archer, Mark Wynter, Nicholas Audsley, and Ben Nealon in this fun thriller.

Frankenstein (2nd to 12th October)
Rona Munro adapts this classic story by Mary Shelley for the stage returning to the original novel which is presented on Belgrade’s B2 stage.

Dangerous Obsession (10th to 12th October)
Belgrade’s website says:
“It’s a sunny afternoon in the Home Counties… Sally Driscoll is watering her plants in the conservatory of her luxurious home after an afternoon sunbathing. A peaceful scene – until a bespectacled, suited man suddenly appears at the door.
John Barrett is not selling double glazing… it becomes clear that he is there looking for someone to take the blame for his wife’s accident.”

The Entertainer (15th to 19th October)
When he’s not annoying the Slater family in EastEnders, Shane Richie can be found giving solid performances on stage. This updated version of John Osborne’s The Entertainer arrives in Coventry.

My Beautiful Laundrette (29th October to 2nd November)
Hanif Kureishi’s story arrives at Belgrade great B2 Stage to remind audiences of the social, personal and cultural issues of the 80’s showing whilst everything has changed perhaps everything is the same.

Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story (7th to 9th November)
This show celebrates thirty years with a large UK tour arriving in Coventry with hits including That’ll Be The Day, La Bamba, Shout and Johnny B. Goode.

The Gruffalo (11th and 12th November)
“Didn’t you know? there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo”

Russian State Ballet (14th to 16th November)
Presented by the Russian State Ballet and Opera House there are three nights of performances, pick from The Nutcracker on 14th November, Don Quixote on the 15th or Swan Lake on the 16th.

Puss in Boots (27th November to 11th January 2020)
Written by children’s television presenter and producer Iain Lauchlan, the Belgrade’s is one of the most traditional in the UK and certainly the most authentic Pantomime in the midlands. Without the distraction of famous names this annual production features adult jokes the kids won’t understand, messy games and a huge emphasis on storytelling. Perfect for a first theatre experience.
