Season Preview: The Alexandra Autumn/Winter 2019/20
Following a spring and summer of big touring shows including Rocky Horror, Hair- The Musical, Avenue Q and American Idiot – The Musical. The Alexandra heads into autumn with a string of musicals, thrillers and kids productions. Here’s what’s coming up:
Singin’ in the Rain (21st to 24th August)
The Alexandra website says:
The Alexandra Theatre annual Stage Experience production returns with Singin’ In The Rain! Stage Experience 2019 will once again showcase the outstanding talents of West Midlands young performers in a major production supported by a professional creative team.

The Girl on the Train (26th to Sat 31st August)
Based on the Paula Hawkins’ 2015 novel, The Girl on The Train continues its 2019 UK tour starring Samantha Womack and Oliver Farnworth.

9 to 5 the Musical (6th to 14th September)
Direct from the West End, Amber Davies stars in this musical featuring Dolly Parton’s music and lyrics based upon the 1980 movie.

Ruby Wax (15th September)
Broadcaster, comedian and mental health campaigner, Ruby Wax explores the workings of the mind with neuroscientist Ash Ranpura and meditation teacher Gelong Thubten.

Eddie Izzard – Wunderbar (17th to Sat 21st Sepember)
Eddie Izzard says:

Gaslight (30th September to 5th October)
Birmingham’s own Martin Shaw returns to his hometown for this classic thriller by Patrick Hamilton.

Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever (23rd and 24th October)

Diversity – Born Ready (1st to 3rd November)
It’s been ten years since Diversity won Britain’s Got Talent and the group are celebrating with their tour Born Ready ‘The 10 Year Anniversary Tour’. Created and choreographed by Ashley Banjo he promises stunts, illusions and stories as well as their fantastic dance moves.

Curtains (5th to 9th November)
Comedian and actor Jason Manford stars in Curtains a comedy mystery musical from the writers of Cabaret and Chicago! A hollywood actress has been killed at the theatre on a productions opening night and Detective Frank Cioffi (Manford) is on the case!

The Mousetrap (11th to 16th November)
The world’s longest running production ever, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap continues its UK tour arriving in Birmingham.

Billionaire Boy (20th to 23rd November)
This great family musical based on the novel by David Walliams arrives in Birmingham as part of its UK tour. Can money by you anything? Can it buy you everything?
Joe Spud is the richest kid in the whole of the UK, he’s also lonely at his very posh private school, so he enrols at the local school and avoids telling them about his wealth. How long can he keep his secret for?

A Christmas Carol (26th to 30th November)
BMOS Musical Theatre Company return to the stage with this classic tale by Charles Dickens. Dickens himself chose Birmingham for his first public reading of this tale in 1853!

The King and I (10th December to 4th January 2020)
When musical lovers are asked to name their top musicals, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King And I is bound to crop up in the list somewhere. First performed on Broadway in 1951 and based on the novel Anna and the King of Siam. The story set in the 1860s tells of Anna Leonowens arrival in Bangkok and becoming a teacher of the Royal Children in Siam (Thailand).

The Bodyguard (21st January to 1st February)
Returning to the role of Rachel Marron, singer and actress Alexandra Burke will arrive at The Alexandra (!) Theatre in early 2020. Featuring the hits from the Best-selling album soundtrack and film, including I Have Nothing, Queen of the Night, Run to You and of course I will Always Love You written by Dolly Parton.
In matinees Jennlee Shallow takes on the role of Rachel Marron (Thursday and Saturday afternoons from 2.30pm).
