Autumn/Winter 2019/20

The original home of the UK’s first purpose built repertory theatre, The Old Rep nows plays host to touring comedy, visiting productions and content produced by its owner Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA).


Crimes on the Coast (3rd to 5th October)

Crimes on the Coast arrives in Birmingham for dates as part of 2019’s Birmingham Comedy Festival. The Old Rep website says:

Inspired by Agatha Christie, Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse, you are invited on an hilarious but murderous trip to a classic English Riviera retreat.

Private Peaceful (9th to 12th October)

National Production Company return to The Old Rep with Michael Morpurgo’s award-winning 2003 novel brought to life. Tommo Peaceful reflects on his experience during the First World War.

Austentatious (24th to 25th October)

The improvised Jane Austen hits The Old Rep for two days this October. The audiences provides the title of each performance and it is then presented in the style of Jane Austen.

Paul Zerdin’s Puppet Party (26th October)

Winner of America’s Got Talent and Brum Panto star Paul Zerdin brings his puppet party to Birmingham featuring Sam, Albert and Baby. Here’s Paul Zerdin on America’s Got Talent: The Champions:

Jesus Christ Superstar (30th October to 2nd November)

BITA Musical Theatre brings their cast of 12-19 year olds to tread the boards at The Old Rep with rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Shakespeare Schools Festival (4th to 8th November)

The Old Rep website says:

Shakespeare Schools Foundation is a charity that transforms lives through the unique power of Shakespeare. Our annual Festival provides a platform for up to 30,000 young people to express themselves and grow in confidence as they take to a professional stage.
