Season Preview: The RSC,
Spring and Summer 2020
Including three productions with Projectk Europa and three Shakespeare productions as part of The RSC’s ongoing programme to stage all thirty-six works of Shakespeare’s plays. Here is spring and summer of 2020 at the edge of the water in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Winter’s Tale (Start date TBA to 2nd October)
Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Directed by Erica Whyman this tale is set partly in the 1960s with the ghosts of a fascist Europe forming an updated backdrop to this production.

The Comedy of Errors (Start Date TBA to 3rd October)
Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Described as a farce and fairytale, Philip Breen brings this mistaken identity story to the Stratford-upon-Avon stage with Miles Jupp as Antipholus of Syracuse.

Pericles (Postponed)
Royal Shakespeare Theatre
The cast is yet to be announced for this Blanche McIntyre directed story. The RSC website says:
The medieval poet John Gower returns from the grave to tell the story of Pericles, Prince of Tyre.

Europeana (Cancelled)
Swan Theatre
The first of three plays this spring and summer at The RSC that are part of Projekt Europa, Patrik Ouředník’s book is adapted by Maria Aberg and Judith Gerstenberg and explores the 100 years of the twentieth century at a frantic pace.

Peer Gynt (Cancelled)
Swan Theatre
Ibsen reimagined for today’s audience and directed by Barbara Frey, The RSC website says:
In a world where identity is commodity and greed is God, what really is the price we pay for individual freedom?

Blindness and Seeing (Cancelled)
Swan Theatre
The third of the three plays from Projectk Europa, Blindness and Seeing explores a town where one women is left with her vision when the others lose their vision.

Twelfth Night (24th to 26th September)
Presented in a ninety-minute version aimed at 7 to 13 year-olds Twelfth Night tells the story of shipwrecked Viola who disguises herself as a servant for Duke Orsino.

The RSC is an accessible theatre and is 15 minutes walk from Stratford-upon-Avon railway station which itself is served by an hourly from Birmingham in the evening.
