The Boy With Wings at Birmingham Rep: Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐A fantastic adventure!
Directed by Daniel Bailey, written by Arvind Ethan David
Set in London, Tunde (Adiel Boboye) is a shy 12-year-old who is fearful of the world and its contents. His friends Kylie (Millie Elkins-Green) and Dev (Samir Mahat) are with him when his world changes forever.

The Boy With Wings is a fantastic adventure. It switches between drama, comedy, and pure fantasy, covering themes of feeling isolated, unique, and then considering acceptance. Whilst the narrative has an ending, it feels very much like there would be a follow up story. This is a feeling I don’t get at lots of theatre.
Adiel Boboye shines as Tunde, a friendly, reluctant leader. Jess Murrain, Stephan Boyce, and Mia Jerome complete this fun cast as the adult figures in the story. Each happy to sing, dance, and flex between serious and fun. The story includes the younger audience members at different moments. Millie Elkins-Green and Samir Mahat are adorable as the friends.

The static set features plenty of walkways, ramps, and even ladders fixed into the bright space. The costumes are retro and futuristic with lots of bright colours to draw the attention. There are few props but theyare used effectively and the rear screen is filled with very fun moments. The puppetry is also excellent with fun birds on the set to make everyone smile.
This story is ideal for anyone over the age of eight upwards, and fun for families. A fantastic adventure, The Boy With Wings is at Birmingham Rep until 30th August 2025. Book tickets here: birmingham-rep.co.uk/whats-on/boy-with-wings.
