The Jack and Ada Beattie Foundation Launches £100 Crisis Grants to Support Vulnerable Households in Birmingham
December 2024: The Jack and Ada Beattie Foundation, founded by Birmingham-born advertising executive, film producer and philanthropist Trevor Beattie, is proud to announce the launch of its Tons of Help programme which offers £100 crisis grants, aimed at providing essential assistance to individuals who are experiencing financial struggles. Now in its fourth year, this initiative seeks to alleviate the financial pressures exacerbated by the rising cost of living, particularly during Christmas.

Funded by Trevor Beattie, the foundation is dedicated to distributing as many Christmas Tons as possible to those experiencing financial hardships this festive season. The primary goal is to ensure that individuals and families can spend Christmas with dignity.
Trevor Beattie draws inspiration from the support of his parents, Jack and Ada Beattie. He reflects;
I was fortunate to have parents who, despite facing financial challenges, were always there for me and my seven siblings. Their dignity and strength helped us navigate the toughest times.”
To further enhance its impact, grants will be exclusively available through safeguarding referees, including social workers, education officers and housing officers. This strategic approach underscores the foundation’s commitment to prioritising low-income and vulnerable households that lack adequate support systems.
In particular, the foundation focuses on aiding older generations living at or below the poverty line, providing critical assistance to those who have no one else to turn to.
A poignant example from previous years includes a single mother with a disabled son who applied for a grant after struggling to afford gas, electricity, food, and even a winter coat for her child. Her distressing situation highlights the urgent need for support that many families face during the festive period.
Trevor highlights the significance of the grants, saying:
Tons of Christmas Help is at the heart of what we do at The Jack And Ada Beattie Foundation. My parents were keenly aware of the hardship people can experience at Christmas. They experienced it themselves. Yet they somehow made ends meet.
We know the instant impact a £100 grant will have on those most in need. Especially at this time of year. And we’ll be handing out as many Tons as we can. It’s important that people are aware of our initiative, at a time when good news can seem so scarce. Knowing that someone is fighting your corner is half the battle won.”
Efforts will be made to meet the needs of the community, the foundation also welcomes donations to expand its outreach and support.
