The Pineapple Club create Birmingham Royal Ballet inspired cocktail

September 2021: The Pineapple Club Cocktail Bar and Bottle Shop in central Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade is collaborating with Birmingham Royal Ballet for a brand-new cocktail, inspired by the Company’s Romeo and Juliet season as ballet returns to Birmingham Hippodrome for live performances this October.

Created by Klára Kopčiková, Bar Manager of The Pineapple Club, the limited-edition cocktail is called The Last Sip and is a blend of floral and fruity flavours such as violet, lavender, and raspberry topped with prosecco.

The Last Sip will available for purchase at The Pineapple Club from Friday 1st October until Saturday 16th October.

The Pineapple Club Cocktail Bar and Bottle Shop Birmingham is the second edition to Vanguard Bars Ltd portfolio. A bespoke venue, located within the heart of the historic Great Western Arcade. The Pineapple Club boasts a selection of delightfully handcrafted cocktails, a wide range of craft beers, and a fantastic food menu.

Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s passionate Romeo and Juliet choreography and Prokofiev’s glorious score will set hearts alight in this enduringly popular, classic interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy created especially for Birmingham Royal Ballet. From the balcony scene’s ecstatic pas de deux, exploring love in all its soaring wonder, to the lovers’ heart-breaking ends, Romeo and Juliet is ballet at its most poignant and beautiful.

Carlos Curates: R&J Reimagined sees Romeo and Juliet get a very different treatment with the Company premiere of Romanian choreographer Edward Clug’s Radio and Juliet, a reinvention of the classic story set to the music of Radiohead, featuring tracks from Kid A, Amnesiac and OK Computer.

Radio and Juliet will form a double bill with Birmingham-based, Rosie Kay Dance Company’s Romeo + Juliet sets the action in the hot Birmingham summer of 2021. In this diverse city, young people’s family loyalties give way to gang allegiance as teenagers play with adult rules. A party in the park gets out of control sparking rumours, rioting and revenge. In the midst of rivalries, first tastes of freedom and sparks of a full-on first love ignite.

Samuel Boulton, Managing Director of The Pineapple Club Cocktail Bar and Bottle Shop said:

Having a performing arts degree and growing up dancing, working with Birmingham Royal Ballet has been fantastic. Our drink, (created by Klára Kopčiková Bar Manager of The Pineapple Club) titled “The Last Sip” is a beautiful blend of floral and fruity flavours, violet, lavender, raspberry and prosecco are combined but we’ve included a special ingredient to surprise the pallet.

I really think this drink celebrates the story of Romeo and Juliet and we hope everyone enjoys it!”

Paul James, Chief Commercial Officer of Birmingham Royal Ballet said:

We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with The Pineapple Club for this cocktail creation inspired by one of ballet’s greatest love stories. I’m looking forward to heading down there before a show to give it a try!”

Birmingham Royal Ballet will perform Romeo and Juliet at Birmingham Hippodrome from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th October and Carlos Curates: R&J Reimagined Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th October.
