expands Legacy Programme

This Is My City Birmingham is expanding its legacy programme following a successful 2020 digital festival as the exciting new initiative for Birmingham continues to bring people from Commonwealth countries together through food, sports and the arts.

This is my City Birmingham

This Is My City aims to become a Birmingham tourist attraction and as it moves into the Legacy Programme, the team are in the process of preparing the next exciting phase for the 2021 event. The festival is due to take place at Edgbaston Stadium in June 2021 (depending on social distancing regulations).

This Is My City’s 2020 digital festival (which took place over the August Bank Holiday) saw 2144 households tune in online at thisismycitybham.org over the course of three days.

Lakis Greek Kitchen

This is my City have partnered with Lakis Greek Kitchen (LGK) – a pop-up traditional Greek taverna which raises money for local charities – to launch a food bank and family support unit from late October.

In addition, This is my City and Lakis Greek Kitchen have once again partnered together and will be delivering the Dishes of Change digital cookery classes through the support unit. Both the family support unit and the food bank will operate from the Magnet Centre in Erdington (currently the Greek Cypriot Community Centre). The unit will also provide support and resources for victims of domestic violence.

LGK has previously partnered with Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market and other outreach organisations in the city to support vulnerable people around the festive season. Discover more via their Facebook page here: facebook.com/www.lakisgreekkitchen.co.uk or lgk.org.uk.

TIMC is a United Community Activity Network (UCAN) project with backing from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games community programme – United By Birmingham 2022.
