This Is My City
launches career mentoring in Birmingham
This Is My City (TIMC) has recently partnered with J21 Coaching Training & Consultancy – an award-winning business coaching company – to deliver their latest programmes This Is My Company and This Is My Career. The programme consists of five Birmingham-based grassroot business and five individuals, whose careers and businesses have been badly affected, leaving them without a clear vision and in some cases without employment as a result of the pandemic.
Following an overwhelming number of applications to TIMC, applicants were shortlisted to receive one-to-one coaching which will take place over a six-week period, delivered by J21 Coaching. At the end of the coaching course, TIMC will reward each participant with a £100 bursary to invest into their business.
I was honoured to be chosen as an ambassador for this is my city and within my role, I have undertaken to carry out essential work for This Is My Career/This Is My Company.
Over the last few weeks, I have been coaching and mentoring a wonderful group of professionals. Many of these individuals are working at grassroots level, have been really affected by the pandemic.
It’s my role to ensure that this group of clients are now fully prepared and equipped with the best knowledge possible, in order to propel their business or career to new heights.”
Jackie Cummins, J21 Coaching
One of the applicants selected for the programme is Zena Weeks, a former events manager at England Athletics. Earlier this year, Zena contracted Covid-19 from a family member, who sadly passed away. Zena recovered back to full health, however, she was furloughed from her position and subsequently made redundant from her post at England Athletics in September 2020.
Following her redundancy, Zena took a leap of faith and decided to pursue her real passion as a chef and launched her business Cook with Zena, teaching athletes, business professionals, students and children how to cook healthy, nutritious and affordable meals.
I registered Cook With Zena a couple of years ago, but did not have the right tools in place to move forward. I am now slowly making good progress with the coaching I am receiving through the This Is My City programme and certainly looking forward to a brighter future”

About This is my City
This Is My City (TIMC) is a new initiative for Birmingham which brings people from Commonwealth countries together through food, sports and the arts. TIMC is a United Community Activity Network (UCAN) project with backing from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games community programme – United By Birmingham 2022.
The project launched in August 2020, kick-starting with a digital online festival celebrating four different cultural regions (Europe, Asia, Caribbean and Africa) through food music and sports. The festival was a huge success, reaching 2144 households over three days.
TIMC is now into the Legacy Programme and the team are in the process of preparing the next exciting phase for the 2021 event. Full details of the festival taking place at a famous landmark venue, will be announced next year.
This is My City is funded by the Big Lottery as part of their Covid-19 relief fund. For more information visit thisismycitybham.org
